As we all know Marco Island has its great attributes for each of us, everyone of us has our “own idea” of why we are here.
I entered into this island world in 1980 as a singer mostly/pianist also, and moved here in 1989 as a pianist/vocalist. To this day I have played everywhere that has been open on Marco Island except possibly a couple places that have come and gone quickly and maybe I missed (I do travel).
I believe that I know all of the sides of Marco Island that anyone could enjoy.
I have played at the Hilton for everything from private parties and New Years Eve, to events and the piano bar.
I have musically entertained at penthouses and condos; in houses and tiki huts, in parks, on stages and beaches.
In the season of 1991 I played at the Little Bar in Goodland 3 nights a week, (they don’t hardly have the same person more than one night a week now).
I played at the Snook Inn 6 days a week in the season of 1990, and still play there on occasion.
From the Moose float in the Christmas parade to the St Patty’s Day Parade Day Celebration at Veterans Park on Marco Island, I have played for years.
The Radisson Hotel was particularly interesting to me for three nights a week in 1991. That was when I still had “Palm Etta” dancing plant on my piano, and “Ned Miller” dancing beer can.
What a life…need I say more?
I have been fortunate enough to sing with some of the greats, even the ones that have come and gone here on Marco and loved every minute of it…I never wanted anything more than to be a singer….I got my wish.
I thoroughly enjoyed playing at the artsy places like Jeanne Brennan’s “In The Light” when she had art shows for the Marco Island masterful painters/artists and beautiful jewelery makers.
And finally we have an Irish Pub on Marco “O’Donoghues” where I played every Thursday for a year in 2010-2011.
I had my number three chance at fame while I was playing at the Radisson Hotel here on Marco Island.
The gentleman who books the King Of Kings place to play music in Florida, Disney World …offered me a job and I did not take him up on the offer.
I know everything happens for a reason and once again, I did not want the job. I can only say that God has His plan for me and it is not to be famous, which is (by the way) fine with me. Whatever God wants is what I want ;-)).
Did I forget to mention playing at Captain Brien’s Off The Hook Comedy Club here on Marco Island?
I do not like cities. I have lived in plenty of them, most as a matter of fact. I cannot seem to find enough dirt and foliage in them for me to feel at home.
I will have a garden soon and that is all I ask for.
I get to play my music for people that I can see in the audience and smile back at them when I make them smile.
This is what I truly enjoy.
